Surcharge
Oil surcharge & Eco surcharge
Information & calculation
The fuel surcharge is an additional fee added to transport services due to changes in diesel prices. It acts as compensation for increased diesel costs and is adjusted monthly based on current diesel prices. This surcharge is used to keep transportation costs stable despite market fluctuations.
Calculation
Flexilast Ek. för. uses Sveriges Åkeriföretag’s standard transport model T08SÅ11MD (Local Distribution with Diesel) and diesel index K92SÅ0900 to calculate the fuel surcharge.
At the end of each month, a new diesel index is published for the current month. This index is then used to determine the fuel surcharge for the following month.
The calculation is based on several constants
Base Index (January 2006): 342.2
Fuel Share (Drivmedelsandel): 19.5%
Current Price Level: 100%
Formula
(Current Month Index – Base Index) / Base Index = Monthly Change
Monthly Change × Fuel Share / Current Price Level = Fuel Surcharge
We guarantee that the money you pay as an Eco surcharge goes directly toward covering the additional cost of purchasing renewable fossil-free fuel equivalent to the fuel consumption for your transport.
This means that by choosing the Eco option, the share of fossil-free fuel increases, and you as a customer actively contribute to reducing CO₂ emissions by covering the cost difference for fossil-free alternatives.
However, this does not mean that the specific truck transporting your goods exclusively runs on fossil-free fuel.
The model we use is comparable to “green electricity”—as an energy consumer, you can pay extra to support renewable energy sources like wind and solar, even if the electricity delivered to your outlet comes from mixed sources.
The Eco surcharge collected by Flexilast is stored in a dedicated account that is only used to offset the higher cost of fossil-free fuel purchases.
Compliance is audited by our accountants, and an annual report is prepared detailing the funds received through the Eco surcharge and how they have been used to replace fossil fuels with renewable ones. This report also includes a calculation of CO₂ reduction achieved.
The report can be customized per customer for those who opt into the Eco surcharge for their transports.
If you change your mind, you can be reimbursed for the Eco surcharge, provided the transport has not yet been carried out.
You can also request statistics on how much you have contributed in Eco surcharge payments and how many liters of fossil-free fuel that has helped finance.
If you’re a contract customer with Flexilast, you can receive regular reports on your transport-related purchases. Please talk to your contact person at Flexilast for assistance.
One of the key benefits of the Eco surcharge is that you help reduce the climate impact of your transport, making it easier for your company to meet sustainability goals related to CO₂ reduction.
If you’d like statistics on how your Eco surcharge purchases have reduced CO₂ emissions, just reach out and we’ll be happy to provide the data.
Flexilast only purchases fuels with a high blend of renewable, fossil-free components such as HVO or RME for our refueling stations. With the support of the EKO surcharge, we aim to increase this share, with the goal of becoming 90% fossil-free by 2030—a significantly more ambitious target than that of the transport sector and society at large.
Calculation
The Eco surcharge is calculated weekly by comparing the purchase price of HVO with the purchase price of Diesel B7, using price data from fuel providers. The lowest supplier price is used in the calculation.
To determine the monthly Eco surcharge, an average of the four latest weekly Eco surcharges is calculated.
Base Value
Constant: 0.3
Formula
HVO Purchase Price / Diesel B7 Purchase Price = Price Difference
Price Difference / Diesel B7 Price = Price Difference in %
(Price Difference in % × 0.3) = Eco surcharge for the week
The average of the four most recent weekly Eco surcharges becomes the Eco surcharge for the upcoming month.
